A Few More Little Things
(I swear, I will actually post something longer in the near future; hey, at least I'm posting something)

Item 1: Still a dick after all these years. Slate interviews Howard Hunt, former CIA Operative and shadowy figure who played a part in the Guatemala coup, the Bay of Pigs invasion, and Watergate. Busy guy. He's also a supporting character in Norman Mailer's rather good (if long, and unresolved) CIA novel Harlot's Ghost. And it looks like Mailer got the character right: Hunt's a shithead.

Item 2: Fountain of comics knowledge. "Movie Poop Shoot" is a very unfortunate name for a website, but these "Comics 101" columns by Scott Tipton are nothing short of fantastic. The guy's knowledgable and articulate; he respects his source material, but isn't afraid to make fun of it when things get silly. His comprehensive Batman and Superman essays do a wonderful job of bringing you up to date on the 70-year evolution of the characters; but it's just as rewarding to read up on some forgotten Golden Age characters (my favorite being the Spectre, a crime-fighting ghost who gained the power to skeletonize people just by touching them after he was shot, encased in concrete, and tossed into the ocean).

Don't Know How I Missed This

Huh. Somehow, I've been unaware that Bill Tuomala of Exiled on Main Street has a blog.

Cool.
